The unfolding events between Russia and Ukraine have had far-reaching effects across the globe.

Global sunflower oil prices have increased by 50% since the conflict began late February. This led to a sharp rise in the prices of other vegetable oils such as palm and soya bean oil.

Meanwhile, bread prices are also expected to increase, but that’s only expected in the next few months.

Could South Africa have done more to protect citizens from these increases?
