It’s suspected that fugitive Thabo Bester and his partner Dr Nandipha Magudumana were fleeing to Kenya before they were nabbed by Tanzanian authorities. A third person, a Mozambican national was also arrested alongside them.

According to police minister, Bheki Cele they were ten kilometres away from Kenya. They each had several passports. Cele says not a single one of them was stamped.

Bester who is a convicted rapist and murderer escaped from the Mangaung prison in the Free State in May last year after staging his death. Justice and Correctional Services Minister Ronald Lamola says Bester will be deported as he is a convicted criminal.

However, with his accomplice Magu-du-mana they will need to explore the best option with Tanzania. But she could be deported as she is illegal in that African country. South African police had issued an arrest warrant for her.
