Challenging Muslim Stereotypes In Film

Muslim filmmakers have taken a firm stance against the continued western stereotypes of Muslims in cinema. TV series like Bodyguard and the CIA drama Homeland are some examples of how inaccurately Muslims are portrayed and painted. Images that are damaging to Muslims and the core principle of their faith, peace. Muslim men are often cast as either terrorists, fringe, culturally backward or oppressive towards women. Whereas Muslim women are portrayed as individuals who have no regard for their religion, are uneducated and oppressed.
