Police Minister Bheki Cele has stuck to his guns saying that Western Cape is the most resourced province.
Speaking at a police imbizo in Mitchells Plain on Friday, the minister told residents that 24 percent of police officers who were trained nationwide in 2019 had all been deployed to the Western Cape to combat crime.
Cele adds that an additional 200 officials and 58 vehicles were also transferred from other provinces to help reduce crime.
Minister Cele’s response comes following backlash from Premier Alan Winde, noting that the police ministry’s claims that the province was the most resourced and funded were false.
Winde says according to policing norms of only one police officer to 225 people – the opposite could be said about crime hotspots on the Cape Flats.
The Premier has urged Cele to ensure those police officials receive sufficient training to lighten the load on overburdened officers in the province.
