Athlone violent crime increases; businesses, residents fed-up

SHARE

Athlone residents are fed up with the escalation of crime in their area. In the vicinity of the Vygieskraal informal settlement, the sound of gunfire has become almost a common feature with fears that gangs are increasingly inserting themselves there. Businesses have also expressed their discontent at the mounting criminal activity and its impact on trade. Some have appealed for hotspot sections to be shut down and for police and other law enforcement agencies to carry out the necessary searches and raids.
