Hajj, one of Islam’s five pillars and a sacred pilgrimage all Muslims are encouraged to partake in at least once in their lifetime if they are by the financial means. When a worshipper performs this sacred pilgrimage, they are spiritually cleansing and renewing themselves for the sake of Allah. With that comes lessons and responsibilities that Hujaaj(pilgrims) are encouraged to pass on to others. Among them acknowledging the beauty in diversity, having faith that difficulties will come to an end, and ridding oneself of vices.

Guest: Dr Shahid Matthee -Department of Religion Studies,  University of Johannesburg
