Another altercation has emerged between a taxi driver and the City’s traffic officers.

This morning, a taxi disobeyed a red traffic light at the corner of Jan Smuts Drive and Govan Mbeki Road.

While attempting to issue a fine, the driver and his passenger became riotous, and started assaulting the officers.

One of the officers fired two shots during the scuffle, wounding one of the attackers in the leg.

Both suspects were detained at Philippi SAPS.

This incident comes a day after taxi drivers attempted to bring the CBD to a standstill.

Taxi bosses are now expected to meet tomorrow over the latest impoundments in Cape Town which sparked yesterday’s protest.

The meeting will be held by the taxi council Santaco in the Western Cape and the National Taxi Alliance.

The NTA’s Theo Malele says no amount of violence can resolve the issues and only dialogue can make them a better people.

Yesterday’s events turned volatile when a traffic officer was allegedly assaulted, and live rounds were fired at law enforcement officers.

Police responded with stun grenades and tear gas.
