  • September 1995 - Radio 786 takes to the airwaves

    Radio 786 did its first ever test broadcast on 1 September 1995, with its official launch later that month at the Vygieskraal Stadium in Rylands Estate, South Africa. The station had over 30,000 listeners and supporters in attendance, who witnessed the historic moment.

  • Pioneering initiatives

    Radio 786 has been a trailblazer in the media industry, hosting innovative broadcasting initiatives from iconic locations like Robben Island and actively participating in South Africa's democratic processes with its coveted election broadcasts.

  • Championing free speech

    In 2014, the station emerged victorious in a 16-year-long battle for the rights of free speech, leading to amendments in sections of the Broadcasting Act and the South African Constitution.
