Man Arrested for Possession of 150 Live Venomous Scorpions

Police have arrested a 28-year-old man following the discovery of live scorpions at Cape Town International Airport.

The suspect was arrested yesterday during an intelligence-driven operation by the Kuilsriver Stock Theft and Endangered Species Unit, working with Cape Nature. Authorities acted on information about a suspect allegedly transporting scorpions.

The suspect was located and apprehended at the airport. Officers found 150 live venomous scorpions hidden amongst clothing in the suspect’s luggage. Officials say the value of the scorpions has not yet been determined. The animals have been safely transported to a secure haven for protection and care.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Bellville Magistrates’ Court on Monday, June 15th.
