The 29-year-old Bothasig man accused of possessing a massive drug stash worth an estimated R10 million has been granted bail.
Gideon Alard has appeared in the Goodwood Magistrate’s Court and was released on R150,000 bail with strict conditions. Alard was arrested last month during a Crime Intelligence operation at an apartment complex in De Zicht, Richwood. He faces charges related to the possession of drugs, firearms, and ammunition.
Police say officers received information that the apartment was allegedly being used as a storage facility by a local gang.
Investigators monitored the premises before stopping Alard as he attempted to leave in a white Mercedes-Benz. A search uncovered an unlicensed 9mm pistol in his possession. Police then searched the apartment and found large quantities of cocaine, ecstasy, and other drugs.
The defence maintains that Alard is innocent and denies allegations linking him to any gang activity. The case has been postponed to October 23 for further investigation.
