SAPS Investigate Fraudulent Scheme Targeting Hardware Stores in Mitchells Plain

Police are investigating whether the four suspects who were arrested for allegedly attempting to defraud a hardware store in the Mitchells Plain area are linked to other cases.

The Western Cape Flying Squad intercepted the suspects at a filling station on Wednesday after they fled from a hardware store in a mall in Lentegeur. It’s alleged two males purchased an item worth R600.

They later returned to the store with a fraudulent till slip, claiming that they had purchased 41 items. The cashier spotted the discrepancy and immediately notified local police. According to authorities, similar incidents have been reported at hardware stores around the province in the past year.

The suspects face charges of fraud.
