6.2 magnitude earthquake hits parts of Cape Town

The tremor experienced in some parts of Cape Town last night was unrelated to the 6.2
magnitude earthquake that occurred off the coast of South Africa.

According to the Council of Geoscience (CGS) there was a 2.5 magnitude tremor some 10km north of Malmesbury. A second tremor was recorded this morning about 6km north of Durbanville.

The Western Cape Environmental Affairs and Development Planning Department says there were no reports of casualties or damages to infrastructure. For South Africa a seismic event with magnitude lower than 4.0 is considered a tremor.
