A 27-year-old alleged gangster has been found guilty of murdering a 52-year-old woman in Manenberg.

The Wynberg Regional Magistrate Court sentenced Desmond Leroy Williams to 20 years behind bars.

Belinda Hector was killed nearly four years ago in gang crossfire in Letaba Street. Police say it was proven beyond reasonable doubt that Williams fired the fatal bullet.

The Western Cape police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembisile Patekile has lauded the detective and prosecution team for securing this sentence.

Manenberg and other communities on the Cape Flats continue to be held hostage by this urban gang warfare. Just this week another young person’s life was cut short. Fifteen-year-old Aqeelah Schroeder was killed in gang crossfire in Delft.
