Women Empowerment Takes Centre Stage at SANZAF and Sunnah Wellness Programme

Radio 786 joined the South African National Zakah Fund (SANZAF) and Sunnah Wellness on 12 September for a special Women’s Month programme aimed at creating a space for growth, connection and inspiration among Muslim women.

The programme brought together young professional women and final-year students for an afternoon of meaningful conversations around identity, career development, confidence and navigating the professional world as Muslim women.

A key focus of the programme was the experiences of Muslim women working in the corporate environment, particularly those who wear the hijab and navigate industries that have traditionally been dominated by men.
The speakers shared personal experiences of entering and progressing through professional spaces while remaining true to their faith, values and identities. Their stories highlighted some of the challenges Muslim women can encounter in the workplace, from having to establish themselves in male-dominated environments to balancing professional expectations with their religious and cultural identities.

Rather than allowing these challenges to define their journeys, the women reflected on how embracing who they are helped shape their confidence and approach to their careers.
For Radio 786, being part of the initiative provided an opportunity to connect with a programme centred on women’s voices, empowerment and personal growth, while highlighting conversations that are relevant to young Muslim women entering the workplace.

The afternoon served as a reminder that professional success and personal identity do not have to exist separately. Through confidence, connection and staying grounded in their values, the women shared how they have worked towards becoming the fullest versions of themselves.
