Will the Electricity Pricing Plan be Easy on the Pocket?

Government’s Revised Electricity Pricing Policy has been gazetted. It’s aimed at reducing the cost of electricity while ensuring tariffs remain fair, transparent and cost-reflective.

The policy comes as South Africans grapple with electricity price increases of nearly 977% since 2007 and introduces a 10-year price forecast to provide certainty for households, businesses and investors. It also claims to support electricity market reforms, greater competition and stronger protection for vulnerable consumers through measures such as modernised free basic electricity.
