Khayelitsha is the main district affected by the health care workers’ strike.

Western Cape Health Department spokesperson, Mark van der Heever says that they have approached the high court to interdict essential workers from going on strike, in the hope that the situation returns to normal at health facilities.

He says that the main concern has been to ensure that staff and patients are not prevented from gaining access to the clinics or hospitals.

van der Heever says that the Khayelitsha Hospital generally takes strain, and the strike is causing further problems at the facility.
