UIF under constant monitoring and review – Thulas Nxesi

The Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF’s) liquidity and sustainability are under constant monitoring and review. Employment and Labour Minister Thulas Nxesi says the UIF has so far paid out more than R49 billion to almost five million workers who lost their jobs as a result of the lockdown.

Minister Nxesi adds that the UIF’s Temporary Employer Relief Scheme (TERS) is assisting to save jobs and plunge the holes caused by fraud and corruption. He adds that 157 cases are being probed, including 38 where employers withheld or underpaid their workers’ benefits. Ninety cases are suspected of fraudulent claims.
