Kogelbaai residents in the Western Cape, were briefly on high alert after reports of a mysterious “Unidentified Flying Object” splashing down at sea.
Emergency teams, including NSRI Gordon’s Bay, sprang into action faster than a seagull spotting chips.
Rescue boats, police, medics and even a drone unit joined the search in foggy, fading light. Eyewitnesses had feared a stranded paraglider drifting over the waves. They later found that every paraglider in the area was safely accounted for.
As crews searched the misty ocean, the “object” seemed to vanish without a trace. No distress calls, no missing persons, and no sign of trouble.
Then, in true seaside fashion, a local surfer paddled in with a theory. Not aliens, not adventurers… but party balloons taking a very scenic float. Yes, it appears the “UFO” may have been helium balloons on an unscheduled ocean tour.
This marks the second balloon “rescue” of its kind along the coast in just one week. So, no extraterrestrials this time, just a reminder to keep balloons on a tight leash.
