Western Cape police have arrested two men in separate operations in Riviersonderend and Khayelitsha, seizing drugs with an estimated street value of R13 million.
In Riviersonderend, a 37-year-old foreign national was arrested after police seized drugs worth an estimated R11 million during a stop-and-search operation on the N2 on Thursday night.
Police said officers searched a black Nissan Tiida and found 87 packets of Mandrax tablets, 16 packets of uncut crystal methamphetamine and two blocks of cocaine.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Caledon Magistrate’s Court once he has been formally charged.
In a separate operation in Khayelitsha, police seized drugs worth an estimated R2 million following an intelligence-driven operation in Thaleni Square early on Thursday morning.
The operation was conducted by the Anti-Economic Crime Task Team and the Provincial Counterfeit and Illicit Policing Team after officers received information about suspected drug-related activities in the area.
Police said they found nine packets of Mandrax tablets, each containing 1,000 tablets, as well as a further 300 loose Mandrax tablets.
Twelve sachets of crystal methamphetamine and 4.15 grams of rock cocaine were also recovered.
A 37-year-old man was arrested at the scene and is expected to face charges relating to the possession and dealing of drugs.
Police said the operations form part of ongoing efforts to disrupt the illicit drug trade in the Western Cape.
