Two Manenberg suspects sentenced for gun violence

Two suspects linked to gun violence in Manenberg have been sentenced for their crimes in the Wynberg Regional Court.

Manenberg police spokesperson, Captain Ian Bennett says that 23-year-old Kashief Petersen was found guilty of attempted murder and an attack on police.

It relates to an incident April 2021, in which police officers patrolling in Seine Road, came under attack.

They were confronted by three suspects who were randomly firing down the road. Petersen was arrested and has since been sentenced to seven years in prison.

In a separate incident, 40-year-old Igsaan Hopley was sentenced to eight years in jail for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

In August last year, officers spotted him throwing the gun over a wall in Jansen Way. The sentence has been suspended for five years. Hopley will be imprisoned for 18 months.
