Treasury has given the City of Cape Town the go-ahead to conduct a feasibility study for the management of the rail service.

Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis has welcomed Treasury’s decision, saying that the municipality is ready to proceed with a detailed feasibility study for the metro.

Hill-Lewis says Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula fully endorsed the City’s decision to want to manage the commuter rail service.

The mayor adds that this step is essential and should be carried out by the City.
