The Vaal – fighting for water

In the US, Wall Street is trading water futures like a commodity. This is likely the next step in privatising a resource necessary for life. Back home in South Africa, communities in the Vaal already don’t have access to clean water.

The stuff that pumps in their pipes reeks of effluent, and it spills into their homes. So while the US moves closer to privatising water, in South Africa, citizens’ access to their basic rights also comes at a cost that they cannot afford.
