The State Capture Commission Shouldn’t Interfere With Zuma’s Affairs

The State Capture Commission has no business opposing former President Jacob Zuma’s bid to stay out of jail. That is the assertion by Zuma’s lawyer Dali Mpofu who is appearing virtually before Judge Bhekisisa Mnguni in the Pietermaritzburg High Court.
Mpofu requested that the court set aside a Constitutional Court ruling that effectively sentenced Zuma to 15 months imprisonment. Mpofu says parties that are constitutionally empowered, including the president to have secured the warrants for Zuma’s arrest found it necessary in the interests of justice to hold the execution of this warrant in abeyance. Therefore, a commission has no business interfering.
President Cyril Ramaphosa, Police Minister Bheki Cele, and Correctional Services Minister Ronald Lamola have been cited as respondents in the matter and have elected not to oppose Zuma’s application.
