This week marks an important day in the Islamic Calendar, where Muslims all around the world end off the blessed month of Ramadaan and come together to celebrate the joyous day of Eid ul Fitr.

Our homes are filled with excitement since the night before Eid, as the sound of Takbeer fills the home, pots are buzzing in the kitchen and the little ones are all excited to get their Eid outfits ready, planning it out to the last detail. With a heart full of gratitude, we get to see everyone you have not seen in a while and wish them an “Eid Mubarak’.

Eid is a day filled with happiness that reminds us to appreciate our blessings and show gratitude to Allah SWT, to thank Him for granting us the strength following a month of fasting, sacrifice and reflection.

Although our heart is filled with sadness as we hear the Al Widaa Ramadaan, our hearts are filled with shukr and Imaan looking forward to a day of sharing, celebration, love, laughter, togetherness and family.

Sharing the joy with your family and loved ones around a meal is the highlight for many. Everyone brings along something to eat and we gather around the table and enjoy dishes made with traditional recipes passed down for generations.

The hustle of pots in the kitchen, the smell of lekker food filling the air, reminiscing on old times and the chitter chatter and laughter of family coming together is what Eid days are for.

All our favourite lussies are made, and the day starts off with being welcomed by the smell of a lekker pie and soutvleis and a “warme gebakte brood”, after Eid Salaah.

It is a time to make new memories around the table and reminds us of how grateful we are for the little moments. “The best memories are made around the table with your loved ones and good food.”

Although we look forward to Eid it is also a time for giving and it is important to share the barakah, especially with those in need and the less fortunate. Our hearts and duas are also for our brothers and sisters who are suffering all around the world as their Eid will be very different to ours.

For many of us, like our family, Eid will be different as there is one less space on the table or we are missing loved ones that are no longer with us. May Allah grant all deceased Janatul Firdous inshAllah and may we cherish every little moment spent with our loved ones.

With a heart filled with Shukr, love and dua here is wishing you and your family a blessed Eid Mubarak InshAllah.
