Police are investigating a fatal shooting at a restaurant in Table View that is believed to have been a targeted attack.
According to video footage circulating online, the 33-year-old victim was seated alone at a table when two armed men, dressed in dark clothing, entered the establishment and approached him directly before opening fire.
The shooting caused panic among patrons, with customers and staff seen fleeing for safety as gunshots rang out through the restaurant. Moments later, the gunmen reportedly returned to the victim, who appeared slumped over in his chair, and fired additional shots before fleeing the scene with some of the man’s belongings.
Authorities have not yet officially identified the deceased, pending notification of next of kin. Police have also not confirmed a motive, although early indications suggest the incident may have been a targeted assassination rather than a random act of violence.
The brazen nature of the attack has once again raised concerns over violent crime in public spaces across Cape Town, particularly incidents linked to organised crime and underworld activity. Table View, while generally regarded as a busy residential and commercial area frequented by locals and tourists alike, has in recent years seen sporadic violent incidents linked to targeted killings.
No arrests have been made at this stage, and investigators are expected to review CCTV footage and gather witness statements as part of the ongoing probe.
