Stage 6 load shedding will remain in place until Eskom’s power grids are able to replenish the lost generation units.

Eskom COO Jan Oberholzer says there is no guarantee that Stage 6 will be reduced by 5pm today.

It follows a unit each at Kusile and Kriel power stations having tripped. The grid is experiencing a shortage of 6000 megawatts.

The power utility noted that there was no evidence of sabotage that lead to the recent spate of load shedding.

Eskom will tomorrow approach market on an ‘urgent basis’ to procure generation capacity.
