Special Voting to Help Reduce Traffic at Polling Stations

The Electoral Commission is hoping to use special voting this time around to avoid a high number of people queuing at polling stations on November 1st.

It comes as these elections are being navigated amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

The IEC has urged eligible voters to apply for this method of voting which will allow a person to cast their ballot on October 30 and 31.

The IEC chairperson Glen Mashinini says not only the infirmed can apply for these special votes.

Applications for special votes closes at 5pm on October 4th.

Methods to apply for a special vote:

  • Voting Station Special Votes:

Online www.elections.org.za
SMS – send voter ID number to 32249
Apply in person or by causing an application, appendix 25 form, to be hand delivered to the Municipal Electoral Office.

  • Home visit Special Votes:
