Six arrested as police crackdown on illegal guns in Belhar

At least six people have been arrested during the police’s Anti-Gang-Unit’s operations in the Belhar precinct.

Three firearms and several rounds of ammunition were confiscated.

The youngest person nabbed was a 16-year-old. The teenager was found with a 38 special revolver that had its serial number removed. In Saint Vincent Drive, a 24-year-old man was detained for being in possession of 50 mandrax tablets, about 20 sachets of tik, 10 different calibre rounds of ammunition and R640 in cash. He faces charges of dealing in drugs and the illegal possession of ammunition. A wanted suspect was also nabbed at a premises in Helshoogte Street. The 37-year-old man is wanted for attempted murder that was reported last month.

Police spokesperson Captain Frederick van Wyk says the suspects are expected to appear in the Bellville and Blue Downs Magistrates soon.
