In recent months, a gun racket involving corrupt police officers and organized crime has been at the centre of the suspicions swirling around the assassination of a senior police detective from Bishop Lavis.

It is widely reported that Lieutenant Charl Kinnear had been investigating the issuance of fraudulent licenses from the Central Firearms Control Registry.
