Jeffrey Donson and his deputy, Werner Meshoa have been ousted from the Kannaland Municipality.

It follows a successful motion of no confidence in the now former Mayor and his deputy.

Donson had been convicted of sexual abuse, while Meshoa was found guilty of fraud.

While they have served their penalties, the public had responded with outrage that they had been allowed to hold public office with their character brought into question.

The council has subsequently voted in former speaker, Nicolaas Valentyn as Mayor, with the ANC’s Leonie Stuurman standing as his deputy.

Rodge Albertus will take over as the new Speaker.
