The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) is set to meet with representatives from the Communications Workers Union (CWU) to discuss alternatives to retrenchments. The public broadcaster requested an urgent meeting with unions with the hope of avoiding a blackout scheduled to kick in this morning.

Last week, the SABC started the retrenchment process of some 400 workers. Head of Human Resources at the SABC, Dr. Mojaki Mosia says the board announced that they will be putting Section 189 on suspension for one week. This means that it will await management to give a directive from the board on the next step forward.
