SA youth spend almost R1300 per month job seeking

South African youth spend nearly R1300 per month job seeking.

This is according to a survey by Open Dialogue. The amount was split into different categories and how much it cost, namely, transport – R478, internet – R464 and other costs R350. This includes printing their CVs, application fees, and food.

The survey also found that 27 percent of young South Africans spend six hours a week looking for work and 84 percent are forced to choose between using their money to look for employment or pay for food and bills. In 2021, South Africa’s unemployment rate hit a record high of 34.4 percent in the second quarter.
