SA Parliament votes to close Israeli embassy

South Africa’s Parliament has voted largely in favour of closing the Israeli embassy in the country. This vote seeks to pave the way for the severing of diplomatic ties between South Africa and the Apartheid entity.

Despite the large majority voting in favour of the embassy shutting down, Chair for Committees, Cedric Frolick who chaired this afternoon’s session warned that under South African law, the resolution that was passed is “politically” persuasive rather than “instructive” to the government.
