South Africa will observe five days of mourning later this month between the 25th and 29th.

President Cyril Ramaphosa says this is to remember the victims of both Covid-19 and gender-based violence and femicide. Flags will fly half-mast across the country between 6am and 6pm.

South Africans have been asked to wear black armbands or other signs of mourning to signify their respect for those who have died during this time.
