SA Muslims usher in Ramadaan

South Africa’s Muslim community will observe the first day of the holy fasting month of Ramadaan on Sunday.

The moon was not sighted on Friday.

Ramadaan is regarded as one of the sacred month’s in Islam. Muslims will abstain from food and drink from dawn to sunset. It’s also a time used to cleanse the body and soul through prayer.

Meanwhile Muslims have been wished all the best for the fasting month. Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill Lewis says this month should be filled with reflection, kindness and peace. He also acknowledged the Muslim community’s contribution to making Cape Town a more caring city. During Ramadaan people are encouraged to increase their charity.
