Relief as trains return between Retreat and Fish Hoek

SHARE

In time for the holiday period, trains are back to operating between Retreat and Fish Hoek.

Metrorail says repairs have been completed on this section of the Southern Line.

The service has been out since early October following vandalism. According to Metrorail major damage was caused when two suspects tried to escape arrest. They threw an 11kV line that they had cut onto a live 3kV overhead electric line at Fish Hoek Station. The touching of the two wires resulted in damage to four mast poles as well at the lines.

Repairs for the Retreat, Fish Hoek and Glencairn Stations has cost over R4 million.

However, repairs are still being carried out at Glencairn. It’s expected this will only be completed by the end of this year.

The resumption of the Glencairn service will bring back services from the Fish Hoek Station all the way to Simons Town.
