Two people have been arrested after the discovery of stolen copper cable worth an estimated street value of R25 000 in Khayelitsha.

The bare overhead cables weighing approximately 256kg was found in a motor vehicle that was pulled over by law enforcement. It was established that the cables belong to the City of Cape Town and are part of essential infrastructure.

Law enforcement spokesperson, Wayne Dyson says the value excludes the price that the damage or stolen infrastructure will cost to replace. The suspects face charges under the criminal matters amendment act and for the possession of stolen property. The vehicle was impounded.
