Tensions are high in Paris following the murder of a 17-year-old boy.

Protests have since taken place in several parts of France over Tuesday’s actions of two police officers. Video footage of the incident shows the officers trying to stop the youth, who was driving a rental car.

One of the officers then points a weapon at the driver. The video then shows the car moving a short distance before crashing. Emergency services tried to revive the teenager, but he died a short time later.

The boy is reportedly Algerian. A total of nine people has been arrested during protests against his murder. The officer that had pointed the firearm has since been arrested on murder charges.

A report on fatal shootings in 2021 and 2022 shows that most of the victims of shootings by French police were black or of Arab descent.
