Police nab 30 suspected criminals over the weekend

In a bid to prevent crime in the Cape Metro, more than 30 suspects were nabbed in a period of two days in the Nyanga Cluster for illegally being in the possession of drugs.

Police found some of the drugs stashed underneath a stone on the pavement in NY57 in Gugulethu.

Others were found in Elsies River and at other sites.

Meanwhile, two suspects aged 17 and 20 were arrested for hijacking, attempted robbery and, attacking a police officer in Browns Farm. Police were alerted by the driver of the hijacked vehicle saying he had just been robbed by eight suspects. Upon arrival, one suspect attacked and stabbed a police officer in his shoulder. Officials retaliated resulting in the one suspect being injured and taken to hospital. A cellphone and an assault weapon were recovered.

The duo is set to appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s once charged.
