The Phoenix community in KwaZulu-Natal is on a path of healing.

The area’s reputation had been tarnished after allegations that community members had been involved in racial profiling, murder, and violence during the July unrest.

But Phoenix Ubuntu Forum member, Sham Maharaj, says that since the dust has settled, it’s become apparent that the scale of violence had been over-represented.

He contends that of the 28 Phoenix residents arrested for their actions during the July unrest only a few were charged with murder.
