The Witzenberg Justice Coalition has expressed its frustration over the rolling blackouts in the area and its surrounds.

Coalition member Naomi Betana says pensioners who are indigent grant beneficiaries have also been greatly affected. This comes despite a moratorium issued by Mayor Barnito Klaasen, which prohibited power cuts from happening in August.

Betana says when the coalition approached the municipality, they were told that they should apply for prepaid electricity meters, if they don’t their next application will be disqualified. She adds that such conditions cannot be placed in the same line as the indigent grant.
