Moves to isolate Apartheid Israel have been given a boost.

A draft resolution to downgrade South Africa’s embassy in Israeli occupied Palestine has been approved in Parliament.

The resolution brought by the National Freedom Party (NFP) was passed with 208 votes for and 94 against. The DA, ACDP, IFP and FF Plus opposed the resolution.

The NFP’s MP, Ahmed Shaik Emam says this is a historic moment for South Africa and a demonstration of its unwavering commitment to justice, human rights, and freedom. He says that they can no longer stand by while Palestinian human rights are being trampled on, adding that this resolution demands accountability from Apartheid Israel.

In 2019, Pretoria downgraded its relations with the Apartheid entity. It was in response to Israel’s deadly atrocities against the people of the besieged Gaza Strip.
