Omarrudin Mattera, also known as “Bra Don” has passed away after a long battle with cancer.
This world-renowned activist, author, and poet is celebrated for his ability to convey emotion and history through his work.
His poetry would also serve as social commentary, and the aftermath of Apartheid.
An activist to the end, Mattera, through his foundation, has worked to promote and develop youth.
Earlier this year, he was bestowed with the Ubuntu Arts and Culture Diplomacy Veterans Award.
Mattera also founded the Union of Black Journalists, the African Writers’ Association, and the Congress of South African Writers.
