Oil Company, Shell’s Move To Rebrand Causes A Stir

Oil Company, Shell is embarking on a rebrand, causing outrage from the Dutch government. The change will not only affect its name, but also its location.

The oil giant will drop “Royal Dutch” from its name, and relocate its headquarters from the Netherlands to the UK. Shell is the Netherlands’ biggest company, and Dutch Economic Affairs Minister Stef Blok says that the announcement was an unpleasant surprise, and that Cabinet deeply regrets the move.

He says that it will have major implications for jobs, investments, and sustainability. But Shell says that the change is meant to strengthen its competitiveness and its plans to become a net-zero emissions business.

Shell was slapped with a hefty court order this year, which marked a victory for climate activists. The Dutch court ruled that it must slash its greenhouse gas emissions. The company says that its move to the UK will not affect the impact of the court ruling.
