The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) will dispatch a delegation to the European Union to demand that necessary steps are taken to put a stop to the criminal act of desecrating the Qur’an under the pretext of freedom of expression.

This was one of the resolutions of an extraordinary session of the OIC council of Foreign Ministers following the burning of the Qur’an in Sweden and Denmark.

It also encouraged member states to consider taking any necessary action against countries that allow this type of sacrilege. It includes recalling their ambassadors for consultation, or taking action in the economic, cultural or other fields.

Calls were also called on the UN Secretary General to appoint a special rapporteur on combating Islamophobia.

The two Nordic countries that have faced backlash for their anti-Islam bigotry have indicated that they are looking at legal means to stop these acts. But it will need to be seen whether this is not merely lip service.
