Municipalities funding models need to be reviewed.

Cooperative Governance Minister Nkosazana Dalmini-Zuma expressed concern over the country’s wall-to-wall municipal system, noting that it made the mistake of assuming that all local government structures would be able to raise their own revenue.

The minister was addressing the opening of the national local government summit in Boksburg.

Dalmini-Zuma says most municipalities nationwide are impoverished with many citizens dependent on social grants and other low income measures to survive.
