More than 400 courts are unable to function when hit by load shedding.

The bulk of the courts are in KwaZulu-Natal and in the Free State. This was revealed in a written response by Justice and Correctional Services Minister Ronald Lamola to a question posed by the EFF.

Lamola confirmed that only 139 of the country’s more than 500 courts could continue operations when hit by load shedding.

Last week, the minister said that he would request that the Electricity Minister, Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa consider exempting the country’s courts from the rolling blackouts.
