More Concerns Raised Over The Transfer Of Life Esidimeni Patients To NGO Facilities

Further concerns are being raised about the procedure and transfer of patients from Life Esidimeni facilities.

The North Gauteng High Court has heard that the patients’ transfer documentation did not have all their medical details.

Former nursing manager at one of the facilities, Zanele Buthelezi is testifying at the inquest into the deaths of 144 psychiatric patients who were moved to NGOs by the Department of Health in 2016.

Buthelezi says that they are transferred with a comprehensive summary of their condition. She says that it contains the in-patients’ mental and physical state before and during admission, as well as any recent information.
