Former Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng has apologised for the political controversy his pro-Israeli comments had caused.

It follows the Judicial Conduct Appeals Committee’s decision to dismiss his application against the Judicial Conduct Committee’s findings against him. Mogoeng had participated in an Israeli webinar in June 2020, in which he expressed love for Zionist Israel and Palestinians.

This caused widespread outrage as people questioned his outpouring of affection for an occupying entity that brutalises Palestinians.

The South African government has long criticised the Zionist regime’s continued attack on Palestinians, its theft of their land, and the brutal siege on the Gaza Strip.
