Military Helps Gauteng with Covid-19 Response

Gauteng’s health practitioners are under pressure as the province sees the continued rise in infections. In the last 24 hour cycle the province recorded just over 7 500 new infections.

None critical and none urgent surgeries have been put on hold to ensure there is space for the increase in hospitalisations. Medical personnel from the military have also been roped in to assist to alleviate the strain on the health system.

Earlier this week President Cyril Ramaphosa noted that the increase in infections in Gauteng is faster and steeper than it was at the same time in the previous waves. It’s expected that the number of new cases in Gauteng will soon surpass the peak of the second wave.
